Part 2. Further development followed the path of separating BDSM into a separate type of sexual behavior. In particular, literary works of BDSM orientation were created. Italian writer and designer Guido Crepax, whose works largely determined the development of the style of the European "adult comics" in the second half of the 20th century, used the image of Paige in his works. Examples of the rapid spread of BDSM themes in the photographic art of the second half of the 20th century are the works of photographers such as Helmut Newton (Germany) and Robert Maplethorpe (USA). 

The spread of BDSM accelerated significantly in the 1990s with the advent of the Internet, especially after the advent of Usenet networks and newsgroups that brought together people interested in alternative sexual relationships and BDSM in particular.
